Funeral services for James Fryda of Tyndall will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, April 19 at St. John Lutheran Church in Tyndall, with Rev. Dean Schroeder officiating. Organist will be Donna Bohlmann. Interment will follow in Springfield Cemetery. Active casketbearers will be Jim's 13 grandsons and honorary casketbearers will be Jim's 10 granddaughters.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 3:00 p.m. until a 7:00 p.m. prayer service at the Goglin Funeral Home in Tyndall. Online condolences may be sent at www.goglinfh.com.

James Lawrence Fryda, Jr. was born Thursday, September 8, 1927 at Kennebec, South Dakota. He was the fifth of six children born to James and Wilhelmina "Minnie" (Wagner) Fryda, Sr. They later moved to the Tyndall area, where he attended country school and later Tyndall High School through his sophomore year. Jim was united in marriage to Maxine Lange on January 29, 1947 at the Lutheran minister's home in Vermillion. They farmed in the Avon area for several years and later moved to a Tyndall area farm. From there, they moved into Tyndall where he purchased and drove a bulk fuel truck for Cenex. Jim was among the first guards hired at the newly opened Mike Durfee State Prison in Springfield. During his time there, he was honored both as Employee of the Month and Employee of the Year. He worked at the prison until his retirement. Jim loved to hunt and fish, and enjoyed hunting and fishing trips to Canada and Alaska. He also enjoyed a sight-seeing trip to Mexico with family. He !
will be remembered for his green thumb, homemade wine and smoked fish. Jim passed away on Sunday, April 15, 2012 at the Good Samaritan Society of Tyndall at the age of 84 years, 7 months and 7 days.

Grateful for having shared Jim's life are his wife of 65 years, Maxine Fryda of Tyndall; nine children: Linda (Alvin) Jonkers of Avon, Larry (Judy) Fryda of South Williamsport, Pennsylvania, Connie (Vernon) Ishmael of Springfield, Janet (Ronald) Wagner of Tyndall, Richard (Valerie) Fryda of Scotland, Barbara (Michael) Layton of Hot Springs, Tommy (Ann) Fryda of Omaha, Nebraska, Patti (Keith) Auch of Harrisburg, and Lorri (Larry) Dietsch of Springfield; 13 grandsons: Michael Jonkers, Bradley Fryda, Steven Fryda, Kenny Wilson, James Ishmael, Christopher Fryda, Jason Dietsch, Justin Wagner, Aaron Dietsch, Ryan Dietsch, Connor Auch, Austin Auch and Scott Fryda; 10 granddaughters: Karen Jonkers Lang, Karla Jonkers Kocer, Kelly Wilson Graham, Becki Jonkers Sigl, Jill Fryda Aarstad, Jennifer Wagner, Amber Ishmael Morvant, Kayleen Wagner, Emma Fryda and Molly Fryda; 25 great-grandchildren; two sisters: Hazel Kaufman of Yankton and Evelyn (Bob) Coleman of Springfield; and two sisters!
-in-law: Leona (Mrs. Lewis) Fryda of Tyndall and Doris (Mrs. Don) Fryda of Oxford, Nebraska.

In addition to his parents, Jim and Minnie Fryda, Jim was preceded in death by three brothers: Lewis, Dale and Don; a brother-in-law, Charles Kaufman; and a sister-in-law, Elaine (Mrs. Dale) Fryda.
