Hi Judy,
I don't have a family connection, but I found possible parents for your
Grace RANKIN in the Sorbie OPR. The Grace I'm proposing seems to have been
born in the parish of Whithorn, but the family did move to Garlieston by
the time she was 7, so she may well have thought Garlieston was her
birthplace.
1801 / Rankin / John and Mary Cluky - Married by E?. Davidson Minr. of
Whithorn at Whithorn Dec 22d.
From this entry, it seems that Mary's parents may have lived in the parish
of Whithorn. I haven't checked the Whithorn OPR, but the index shows that
the register there spells Mary's name as "CLEWCHIE".
Also from the index, this same spelling was used in the Whithorn OPR in
recording the baptism of the couple's first child, Grace, 01 Aug 1802.
Other children of this marriage were all born in the parish of Sorbie. I
didn't transcribe each entry in full, but the names, baptism date, and
residence were as follows:
James, 24 Feb 1805, Galloway House.
John, 15 Jun 1807, Galloway House.
Agnes, 04 Jul 1809, Garlieston.
George, 03 Apr 1811, Garlieston.
Agnew, 14 Apr 1816, Garlieston. (Born 11 Apr 1816.)
Galloway House is about 1 km south of Garlieston.
I'm guessing that your Grace RANKIN didn't die in Scotland, or was it
before 1855 ?
