Hi Bonnie,

This is a stretch, but do you think it is possible the following 1881 census
entry is your grandfather's family? There was only the one James Davie
living in Whithorn on the census.

Also, some other census entries and birth/christening entries for Mitchell
and Sprott from the IGI, which you may already have. They look like members
of the same family, but....

It appears the Sprott's may have been in Stoneykirk for the 1841 census. You
may want to go to the Parish information for Stoneykirk on the Wigtownshire
Pages website and ask one of the volunteer contacts for a lookup on the 1841
Stoneykirk census.
