Hi List, am just advising all of you, especially those who asked me to pursue things here in Australia, and in the Stewart line, I apologise for not getting back to you, I have printed all requests and information and am going to be going through it slowly.. Unfortunately, I have had, am having a bit of a major health scare at the moment, so I'm not on line much at all....just for a little while. Things will get done that much slower because of this, so please be patient, and perhaps, check a font of information for free, on line...National Archive of Australia, has passenger lists, ships names, armed forces personnel records for World War 1 and maybe further on. Passports, requests for immigration to Australia etc. It goes back I think to early 1800's, and up to quite recent 1980 perhaps. My dad's hand written immigration records, including photo, were being held there, and they photocopied all of it and posted it to me for no cost. This included where in Europe he was!
after being released as a POW, where he left Europe, and when, the ship, the class he travelled, date of arrival in Australia, Marital Status etc, where he was sent, and after leaving a misplaced persons camp, he was issued with a misplaced persons passport, which had to list every change of address he had, and be approved to, before he moved.! It was brilliant. Also WW1 records, my Guncle's war service record, with next of kin, and all locations he served, ships he was transported on, wages, charges (went on unauthorised leave a couple of weekends), wounds received, (3, one in the thigh, one in the head, and final mustard gassing, although he survived - even after waking up in a field morgue!!!) although this record cost me approximately $16.00 Australian (roughly 8 pounds English) it was well worth the effort, came in a lovely folder with a soldier on the front, and maps of the battlefields of World War 1 on the inside covers. Their is some information of course that yo!
u can just print for yourself, you don't have to send for. Anyway, good luck with it all, and I will answer everyone if I can, slowly but surely. Kindest Regards Joanne Kotylak
