Response to Maisie, which I'll copy to List so that someone else can answer
her more fully.

The page in the in November issue of DGFHS Newsletter was the first I had
heard of this new Heritage Group.
My knowledge of this wee village is limited to having a few bar lunches in
the Smugglers Inn, Auchencairn between <A HREF="http://www.pitt-dds.co.uk/hillwalking/scrl/scrl-1.htm">Climbing Screel Hill</A> in the morning
and walking the coastal cliff path from Balcary Point to Rascarrel Bay in the
afternoon.

My knowledge of this area is very limited -- Auchencairn is not on the main
east-west route through Galloway. I'm a relatively a newcomer to Dumfries and
Galloway - I've been here only thirty years and most of that time was spent
in and around Dumfriesshire with the occasional excursion into
Kirkcudbrightshire and Wigtownshire.
Since retiring in 1997 I have been able to take the time to explore these
small villages. Auchencairn and the nearby smaller village of Palnackie are
two I have neglected so far. I'll remedy that this summer and put additional
photo pages to the <A HREF="http://members.aol.com/sypittdfs">Towns and Villages</A> pages on my D&G website or <A HREF="http://www.imchad.freeola.com">Ian's IMCHAD</A>
website or possibly both.
