Hello Wayne
The only David Hannay residing in Kirkcowan in 1841 was aged 3, whereas yours would be 61(ish). There is no Susan at all and none of the children seem to be there or the Grandparents, John and Susan.
Not in Mochrum either, or Stoneykirk, Kirkinner or Garlieston village, Glenluce village, Old Luce, Newton Stewart, Whithorn, Sorbie, Glasserton or Wigtown.
I found a David Hannay age 55, molecatcher in Penninghame, living at Low Glasnock 5, with Shusand(?), age 45, John age 5 and Mary age 10, all reference number 11,2.
Hope this helps.
Carrie

Hi Carrie ...
Wondering if you can check your Kirkcowan 1841 census for:
David Hannay(h) born 1780, wife Susan (McGill) Hannay born 1792.
children:
Robert Hannay b 1825
Susan Hannay b 1828
May (Mary) Hannay b 1830
Grace Hannay b 1832
John Hannay b 1836
Also, just by chance <g> this David Hannay b 1780; his parents were John Hannay (h) b 1750, and Susan (Ferguson) Hannay b abt 1750, ( possibly they were deceased by 1841 )
Thanks Carrie ...
