Hi Ian,
I have examples of three ladies in our Scottish family tree who were
baptized Janet and were known as Jessie.
I had accepted that perhaps this was the accepted nick-name, until we ended
up with a mother, baptized Jessie and her daughter was baptized Jessie but
always known as Sheena. We had no hope of finding that birth, luckily the
baby was on the 1901 Census as Jessie.
