Subject: ROSS - Parents changing children's names

Hi, Tongue Listers
You may remember, some time ago, we cracked the mystery of EUPHEMIA
BUCHAN ROSS, born 1870 to JOHN ROSS & EUPHEMIA MACKAY. In 1881 she is
listed as ROBERTINA W.B. ROSS. We discovered that a few months after
birth, Euphemia was christened for Dr Robert Walker Black, the local
doctor who had recently died. Parents John and Effy had the change of
name entered in the Register of Births.
I've now realised, another child ISABELLA McKAY ROSS, born 1864, pops up
in the 1881 as ANN J.M. ROSS. This time, there is no official note of
the change. I wonder why, and when, Isabella became Ann?
