Hi all

I'm quite often asked what Censuses, other than the 1841 to 1911 ones, exist.  Of course most of us know of the "Inhabitants of the Argyll Estates 1779."   However, Kirsty Wilkinson has just updated her list of "Scottish Censuses, Population Listings & Communion Rolls" for the counties of Scotland.  And yes the elusive 1792 Census is there.  Have a look at :

Many of the records previously held by NRS have been returned to Local Archives.  Those for the "forgotten" parishes in the north of Argyll which since 1974 have been in  in Highland [viz  Ardnamurchan, Ballachulish & Corran of Ardgour, Kilmallie, Lismore & Appin and Morvern] have been transferred to the Lochaber Archive in Fort William.  SOME of the others for the remaining parishes of Argyll to the Argyll & Bute Archive in Lochgilphead.

Have a look at the Link in Kirsty's URL. http://www.nas.gov.uk/about/101101.asp

Regards
Les
