Hugh Livingston and wife Mary (McDougall) are in the 1871 census at Argyll Terrace, Tobermory.

Hugh Livingston / Head / Married/ 36/ Fisherman/ b. Glasgow
Mary Livingston /wife/36 / KLN
John Livingston / son /9/ scholar TBR
Ann McDougall / Mother-in-law / Widow / 80 KLF
Christina McLeod / cousin / Unmarried/ 60 KLN

In 1881, still at Argyll Terrace, Tobermory, Hugh is 47, Labourer but born Ulva, with wife, Mary, 46, born Mull and son, John, 19, born Tobermory.
In 1891 they are at West Argyll Terrace: Hugh is 55, Mason’s Labourer, born Ulva; Mary is 50, wife, born Torloisk, and son, John is 27, born Tobermory.

Working backwards, in 1861, at Balligown:
Archibald McDougall/80/head/Crofter/born KLN
Anne McDougall/68/wife/KLN
John McDougall/29/sib/Ag LaB/KLN
Ann Anderson/31/dau-in-law/born Skye
Hugh Livingston/28/Son-in-law/Lobster Fisherman/KLN
Mary McDougall (Livingston?)/29/daughter/KLN
Marion Grahame/10/g’dau/scholar/KLN
Alexander McDougall/2/g’son/KLN
Ann McDougall/1/g’dau/KLN.

But trying to sort out Hugh in 1851 is less easy. There are so many Livingstons and they aren’t very adventurous with names so I’ll leave this for someone else.
Cheers, Jill
