Hello again Sandford
Since my last, I have spent a bit of time playing around with what appears
to be "my McLean" family.
Located on the Mull Genealogy site (http://mullgenealogy.co.uk/) in the
"surname index" there is a reference to Hector McLean and Ann McQuary with
children Catharine (1785), Mary (1790), Lachlan (1792), Neil (abt 1798) and
Alexander (1800).
The site has Neil born in abt 1798 and dying on 14 Dec 1858, Killunaig, Isle
of Mull. It also has his wife named as Effie
The 1851 Census Records on the same site has the following information:
1851 Kilfinichen & Kilvicheon
District No : Page No : 125 House No : 17 Locality : Killunaig
18512136
MacLean, Niel/56/M/pauper/Kilfinichen
MacLean, Effy/54/w/pauper/Kilfinichen
Livingston, John/41/ Uv/pedlar/Torosay
The 1841 Census Records on the same site lists a Niel at the same address.
He may be the same person -
1841 Kilfinichen & Kilvicheon
District No : 7 Page No : 2 House No : 5 Locality : Killunaig 18412338
MacLean, Niel/40/Tenant/Y in Parish
MacArthur, Malcolm/9/Servant/Y in Parish
Killunaig is on the southern coast of Loch Scridain. There are lots of
McGilvrays (of various spellings) and McLeans listed in the census returns
along this shoreline through to Kinloch where I think my family was in 1809.
Site www.familysearch.org has member submission references to both Hector
McLean and Ann McQuarrie suggesting that they were both born in Kilninian
Parish in the 1760's. There are also various references (from member
submissions and oprs) to the births/baptisms of their children.
All this information is from indexes and other people's transcriptions so
needs verifying but may point us in the right direction.
Regards
Laurie McNeill
