Thanks Tricia;
I got a reply from Ida King and I'm copying the same response to you
that I gave her. This stuff does get complicated!
Dudley
Ida;
Thanks for the reply - it got me looking beyond the chart I was
using. Unfortunately I only get a chance to do this searching very
seldom and am not proficient. I've been retired 14 years now and just
as soon as I really retire I hope to have more time form it.
Well here goes. I do not know of her siblings but... The following
information comes from a long dead relative, Lillian Hamilton, who
seems to have been Mary Jane's granddaughter and may not be
accurate. "My Mother - Flora Margaret Anna Hamilton - her mother -
Mary Jane MacDougall, was born on the Isle of Mull, Scotland, about
1852. She had five brothers and three sisters. Duncan, Neil, Allan,
Johnny, Jamsay, Elizabeth Glegg, Flora Marshall, Annie Whittington
{I'm not sure if these refer to Lillian's aunts and uncles or Mary
Jane's siblings. All are associated with place names in Canada!}
My great Grandmother was Margaret MacKinnon from the Isle of Mull.
She died in Saskatchewan (Canada) - her maiden name was probably
Munroe she was widowed on the boat coming from Scotland to canada and
later married Allan MacDougall. allan MacDougall also born on Isle
of Mull and came to Moosemin, Sask. ( here I add a note. If Mother's
mother was born on the Isle of Mull, then she must have been Mary
Jane MacKinnon and later took the name of her step father. as far as
I know they could not all have born on the Isle of Mull of Allan
Macdougall for she was widowed coming over on the boat. It was quite
possible and does seem reasonable for her to taken his name in the
new country. At any rate I see a puzzle here.) She has that right!
Allan MacDougall's brother was Postmaster General in either edinburgh
or Glasgow. most likely Edinburgh.
Allan MacDougall - My Great grandfather, died in Saskatchewan at 100
yrs. of age, Aunt Lottie's Mother's sisters said. I had always heard
103. When I was a small child about seven he was still alive
although all my other grandparents on both sides were dead. Allan
MacDogall hd two unmarried sister in Scotland and a brother donald
who drowned at age 19 between Mull and the mainland."
One other bit of lore - Mary Jane was reputed to have been related
the duke of Argyll - second cousin. I fear he had thousands of
second cousins.
I'm sure this will muddy the waters.
