Hi Gerry
Whilst searching through paperwork I came across a passenger list for the Barlow. The Campbells were not on board but looks as if they did sail on the CONRAD out of Greenock (Port of Glasgow) on 18 June 1850. Passenger list reads
Hector Campbell age 47
John Campbell 15
Allan Campbell 17
Donald Cambell 12
Sarah Campbell 8
No mention of either Catherine (presumed decd) or Charles born 1837. Did find record of daughter Marrian Campbell born 21.4.1842 - she and Marrian must be one and the same with a mix up somewhere over her Christian name.

Amongst the same information was a list of people wanting to emigrate taken 23 March 1847 and Hector is listed as himself, wife, another adult and four children. Catherine therefore must have died between March 1847 and June 1850.

The Conrad sailed with 241 on board, 74 from Mull and 167 from Tiree.

I have also come accross a copy of A HISTORY OF THE COUNTY OF GREY from 1865 which lists Hector Campbell as holding concession 11 Lot 17 in the Township of Egremont. ou may already have this info.

Hope the above helps
Fiona

Gerry
Great news that you have found some more of Hectors family.
There are 2 possible cemetarys that would have been used in the 1840s but unfortunately they have not been fully recorded. This is a future and very worthwhile project. I may be visiting them at some point and will look for Catherines stone but it might not be for some time. I will let you know if I find anything.
The weather here is turning cold and very windy of late - next time we get a bright dry day I may take some air.
We look forward to copies of any further research which we can place with existing material.
Regards

Fiona

Hi Shannon
Thank you so much for your info .I though for a while the Catherine born in Benik was mine but both my cousin & I on contacting the Mcleans in Canada we
had to think again.Your info has helped to narrow the search ie she came from out of the Parish. Also I know Hector was a widower in 1851.She must of died in Mull or in Glenelg, Grey County Ontario.I also know they were Baptists. They lived in Ardtun in 1841.What cemetery would would she be buried in if she died before they left?.She did not show on the Candian census.
I have have come across Hectors 2nd wife and family. Jean Kinnaird also one of Hectors has contacted me and we are working together. I will send you all of our latest finding which can be attached to to family history I sent to the Centre last year.

Hi Gerry
Just to let you know that Lynda has moved on and myself and Andrea will be manning the Centre from now on.
In answer to your query I'm afraid that the only record of Hector and Catherines marriage is a listing in the Old Parish Records and it does not give parents details. This is all that is available for Marriages before 1855.
I could not find any record of another Catherine Fletcher in this parish. I did however come across some more details of Catherine Mclean which you may or may not already have-
she is buried in Rocky Saugeen Cemetry in Bentick Township and her gravestone reads
Catherine McLean w of Hugh Fletcher Dec 10,1783-Sept 20,1875 b Mull.
Also buried there are
Alex Fletcher d Apr11,1853 age 39 yrs b Ross Mull
Elizabeth Fletcher d Dec 2,1861 age 43 years
Charles Fletcher d Jan 25,1893 aged 65 yrs w
Catherine Stewart 1848-1917
Stewart Fletcher d June 20,1879 age 2 yrs 8 ms
Alexander Fletcher 1874-1931
Donald Fletcher d 1869 age 45 yrs
Margeret Fletcher 1870-1911
Charlotte Fletcher 1883-1940

As for records of the Barlow we believe she sailed in 1849 and there may be passenger lists held at Inverary Castle (the ancestoral home of The Duke of Argyll) although access to these papers is extremely difficult.

Finally there is a record in the OPRs as follows
27 March 1847 Catherine Campbell died
This may be Catherine Fletcher.

I hope something here is of use to you - please keep in touch with any more findings.

Hi Lynda

I have run into a brick wall with my Catherine Fletcher who married Hector Campbell in 1832 Kilfinchen.I thought her parents were Hugh Fletcher and Catherine McClean. They also had a Catherine Fletcher who married a Alexander Stewart who drowned - her 2nd husband was Hector Mclean. They joined Catherine Fletcher widow in Grey County Ontario.I got in touch with the canadian Mcleans .I asked them if they knew of another Catherine Fletcher but to no avail.Would it be possible to find a record of Catherines and Hectors marriage document to find out who her parents were.I know Hector was a Baptist but do not know if he was one at the time of his marriage.

many regards Gerry

Dear Gerry
I found the marriage of Hugh Fletcher and Catherine MacLean on 6 June 1809 in Creich. Hugh Fletcher's parents were Donald Fletcher and Marion Stewart.
Hugh & Catherine had 10 children and at least one son, John, emigrated to Sydney, Australia in 1852. I think I have had people researching this family, perhaps you would like to get in touch with them.
I hope you hand your family have a lovely Christmas and a happy new year - at least you will be a lot warmer than we are just now.
Since we married 15 years ago I have always fed a minimum of 13 on Christmas Day but this year for various reason there will only be my husband and our 3 children. I think we will be eating turkey for 2 months.
Kind regards
Lynda

Dear Geraldine
Your package arrived safely - many thanks- I enjoyed reading it very much. They certainly were a tough, hardworking lot who lived on Mull, as they still are! I will have a look for any information we might have on the Barlow.
best wishes from a very cold and stormy Bunessan
Lynda

county.I sent off my membership fee today.

Dear Geraldine
Thank you very much for your very interesting email, I look forward to receiving your family information and photographs.
In the Old Parish record I found the following information
15 June 1806, Ronald Campbell, Argyllshire Militia and Marion MacLean, Creich had their legal son Hector baptised.
This may be the family you are looking for.
If you have any further queries please do not hesitate to contact me.
Kind regards
Lynda

Dear Linda I am very eager to to take up membership.I have recently contacted my relatives in Canada who have sent me a family tree which I would like to sent a copy to your group.I am also adding to the story. The story begins with Hector Francis Campbell born Mull 1805 died 90 and is buried in Lovat cemetery Bruce County Ont. Can. he married Catherine Fletcher in Kilfinchen in 1832 but she must have died before the family migrated in the 1840's.My ggrandfather Donald was one of the chideran.I have a good family picture of Donald and his family which I will also send.Right now I am following a lead of Ronald Campbell and his wife Marion Mclean who are probably Hectors parents. Will send money and family tree and stories.
