Thanks to all who have responded to this query.

Yes Elaine, I have been in contact with Roy McGilvray - he does have a
wealth of information and was helpful to point me toward the location in the
1841 Census for Mull. So I had found the family at Carsaig through LDS film
and this matched with information in the 1851 Census in Canada.

Thanks, Michael for finding John's marriage to Catherine McGrigor. [There
had been a suggestion that her maiden name was McDonald and that has had me
off in wrong directions for a long while!!] I had looked as much as I could
in Kilfinichen & Kilvickeon and in Kinlochspelvie but with no certain
results. Had not gone further afield to Torosay parish records.

Thanks also to Ida. I do believe that this is the correct family as son
Donald in following years in Canada listed his name to distinguish from
others as "Donald Gregor McG"!! The children do match up and I have even
found one more son now:

John McGilvray married to Cathrine McGrigor 28 Jan 1813 Torosay-M115502
Donald McGilvray ch 09 Feb 1814 Torosay-C115502
Archibald McGilvra ch 02 May 1816 Kilfinichen & Kilvickeon - C115422
Anne McGilvray ch 18 Oct 1818 Torosay - C115502
Hugh McGilvray ch 21 Jun 1823 Torosay - C115504
John McGilvray ch 03 Apr 1825 Torosay - C115504
Flory McGilvray ch 03 Feb 1828 Torosay - C115504
1841 Census - Kilfinichen & Kilvickeon, Dist 7 at Carsaig

I am not yet sure where Hugh is in the 1841 Census. Looks like the family
moved back and forth between Torosay parish and Kil &K'eon parish. Any
explanations for this? Where is the location for the Torosay parish church?
Was there a connection between Kinlochspelvie parish and Torosay parish in
the 1820-40s? Any way to find out through estate records, etc where they
may have been located before the 1841 Census?

And Ian - I think this may take the family record further along for your
website.

Thanks again. This has been a good day!!
Peggy
