Janet
A while ago you mentioned that you have connections to David Campbell so
as David is a rather uncommon name I dug through the IGI and found
David Campbell and Betsy McInnis (sp) having the following children b/c
in Salen by Tobermory:
Duncan Jul 24 1848
Isabel 1850 (1851 census)
Emilie Degrow C Dec 24 1856
Elspeth Livingston Mar 28 1860
Of course the next obvious thing is to check the 1881 census here I find:
Dwelling: Salen
Census Place: Kilninian & Kilmore, Argyll, Scotland
Source: FHL Film 0203563 GRO Ref Volume 548 EnumDist
3 Page 1
Marr Age Sex Birthplace
David CAMPBELL M 59 M Kilfinichen, Argyll, Scotland
Rel: Head
Occ: Fisherman
Elizabeth I. CAMPBELL M 58 F Cullen, Banff, Scotland
Rel: Wife
Occ: Fishermans Wife
Duncan CAMPBELL U 32 M Pennygown, Argyll, Scotland
Rel: Son
Occ: Fishermans Son
Elizabeth A. LANG 4 F St George, Edinburgh, Scotland
Rel: Grand Daur
Occ: Fishermans Grand Daur
Elizabeth Jane LIVINGSTONE W 69 F Banff, Banff, Scotland
Rel: Sister In Law
Occ: Hotel Keepers Daur
So now I presume if Elizabeth I Campbell is Betsy McInnis (sp) then
Elizabeth Jane Livingstone listed as s-i-l is also a McInnis (sp)
In 1841 census Salen SLN I notice a David Campbell living in
Sally/Marion/Sarah McKinnon h/h
residents are:
Sally/Marion/Sarah 55 as a cotter
Margaret 50
Jessie/Janet 45
David Campbell 20
So now I presume your Betsy/Elizabeth came sometimes between 1841 and
the birth of her first child Duncan b/c 1848 sorry I couldn't find a
marriage for them in the IGI but they are really lacking when it come to
marriages.
So with Ian's posting of the 1851 census for the surname Innes. The
enumerator may have dropped the MAC/MC off of the surname and I'm
thinking that the Wd represents Widowed daughter. If so then I'm also
thinking that your Elizabeth Livingston may be the Elizabeth McInnes who
married Lachlan McKinnon Mar 17 1846 Tobermory M115492, 0084
Also in 1851 census looks like next door to the Innes/McInnis family is
the David Campbell family
Campbell David 30 merchant
Betsy 25
Duncan 2
Isabel 1
McKinnon Janet 60 relative so again I presume this Janet has added 5
extra years onto her age. Also that she is indeed the same Janet, David
was living with in 1841. Quite possibly an Aunt?
I believe you mentioned that David's parents were Duncan Campbell &
Margaret McKinnon. If you have additional information on Duncan Campbell
& Margaret McKinnon's family, siblings, I'd really appreciate it. As I
haven't done very much on the McKinnon or Campbell line. If they too
descend from the Ross super :-)
Elaine Robinson may have more information that may shed some more light
here as she collects McKinnons.
Please be sure to post anything you find to the list for the Archives.
good luck
Ida
