Subject: [Mull] Mull and Jura MACTAVISH Families

Wondering if anyone out there is aware of any concrete connections between
the MACTAVISH families of Mull and Jura? I have little real information to
work with as yet, just bits and pieces gleaned from various sources.

Jo had indicated that my Quebec MacTavishes (Dougald arrived in Quebec as
an adult in the 1840's, his headstone says he's from Mull) are likely
descended from Rev. Archibald MacTavish (1711-1778) of Torosay as his was
the only MacTavish family on Mull. However, a search of the OPRs via Scot's
Origins a few years ago showed no Dougald born on Mull in my timeframe, but
there *was* one with parents of what we believe to be the right names
(Archibald MacTavish and Mary MacFarlane) on Jura.

I understand that some of Archibald's decendants were ministers as well. I
have found internet references to Rev(s) MacTavish on both Mull and Jura,
including a recent reference that looks the most promising of a Rev.
Archibald MacTavish and Mary MacFarlan with a son named Dougald of about
the right age on Jura.

I anyone familiar with the various movements of the elusive Rev(s)
MacTavish amongst the islands? Was this typical of ministers of the era? Or
am I off on the wrong track?

Thanks,
