Hi,
I joined this site about 1 month ago and am very impressed with the amount
of detailed information that is being passed on to all viewers. Also the
willingness of people to assist in the location of information is
incredible. I have gathered alot of information on the Canadian side but I
am totally unfamiliar with the Scottish side. I have been trying to learn
from all the correspondence as all the place names etc are so foreign and I
want to understand what I am looking and asking for.
I also am looking for information on McGillivray's and Campbell's . My Gr Gr
Grandfather was James McGillivray born 1806 in Bunessan,Rossmull,Argylshire,
Scotland. I think his parents may have been Malcolm McGillivray and Isabella
Campbell.
James married Susanna Campbell in 1838 (I believe, I don't have the record
to prove it) she was born in Kilmartin,Argylshire, Scotland in 1819, I think
her mother was Isabel Campbell (different spelling of first name than
James's Mother.).
A friend looked at the 1841 census from the Bunessan area where it lists
James McGillivray aged 30 as a Shoemaker, his wife Susanna aged 24 and 2
daughters Mary and Isabella. This is the correct family and they came to
Canada in time for my Gr Grandmothers birth in 1843.
I am looking for the family on both the Campbell and the McGillivray side,
would there be anything in the 1779 census that may assist me.
Again I really appreciate all the information especially on the history of
the people and the area.
Thanks
Donna
