Have been following the discussion about the Oban Times with interest. I
believe the area the Oban Times served must have been much larger than
Argyll. In 1932 my great great Aunt's Obituary, written by Alexander
Stewart who wrote the book " A Highland Parish", appeared in the Oban Times.
This gg aunt, who had spent her whole life on Lochtayside, was in her 80's
when she died in Aberfeldy Perthshire. According to the obit, her family
had been in Perthshire for 300 years, after leaving Argyll. That was my
maternal grandfather's side - the Stewarts. On the McPhail side ( my
maternal grandmother's side) my grandmother and some of her siblings were
born in Mull and others in Muckairn parish in the 1880's. My granny spent
most of her life in Aberfeldy. Yet my mother and her siblings were familiar
with the Oban Times, and I understand that news of my uncle's death in June
of this year was reported in that paper.
