Hi Elisabeth
My gr.gr.gr.grandparents were Duncan MacColl and Catherine McKay.
Duncan, born abt.1775, appears at Scallastle on Mull in 1802 as the father of
Margaret MacColl,he was noted as a Corporal in the army from 1802 to 1811 in
an handwritten document that my 2nd cousin has in his files
His son,John MacColl, born 1807 was my direct ancestor.
He married Mary Campbell, born 1806 on the Isle of Lismore, daughter of John
Campbell and Catherine McColl.
There were not too many MacColls on Mull according to Jo Currie in her book
'Mull Family Names', I don't now where Duncan was born, but I have a feeling
that he,or his parents, may have went to Mull because of military
connections.
We may have a connection here, does any of this fit in with your records ?
Regards
Frank McGonigal Ont Canada
