Hello Ida: Yes, household #82 is that of my great great grandparents,
Donald and Ann, who emigrated to Canada c. 1885. Six year old Mary
eventually emigrated to Elgin County, Canada in 1885. One of the pictures
is of her feeding the chickens in her Ontario farm yard. Five year old
Dugald eventually became a policeman in Barrow on Furness, Lancashire. He
had at least two sons. Two year old John eventually had a family of eight
(six daughters, two sons) three of whom emigrated to Canada between 1910 and
1927. John was once a policeman in Lochgilphead I believe. He was also
inkeeper at Ulva Ferry in 1881 around the time of the fire there. He took
over the croft at Kilvaree (near Connel Ferry) when Donald etc. decamped for
Canada in 1885. Four month old Donald eventually emigrated in 1885 with the
rest of the family.
We believe that the parents of Donald (1811-1895) are Dugald McPhail and
Mary Clark who appear on the IGI.
Jane's grandfather Alexander had Campbell as his middle name. Also, the
child of another daughter of Donald had Campbell as a middle name. There
also is a tie in between John (the g g grandfather) and the owner of
Dunstaffnage Castle, who was also a Campbell. I understand that my granny
said that the McPhails were the "baggagemasters" to the lairds of
Dunstaffnage. We do not know if this comment was made in jest or in
earnest. A family story has it that when the laird died early in the 1900's
John McPhail and one other "dressed" the body for burial.
Cheers
Margaret
