List,

I wrote to the list several weeks ago about some of my ancestors. I have
since gotten together with my mother and discovered that she has more
information on several of these people than I had previously. Since most of
this information is not in the parish registers (its too old) I thought it
might be interesting to share it with the list and see what else we can
learn.

McInnis names:

My original email had asked about my g g grandmother Margaret McInnis who
married Niel McDougall (McLucais). Jo Currie responded with information on
Margaret's family but stated that no one seemed to be able to keep
Margaret's name straight. There are probably several reasons for the
confusion. First, Margaret McInnis was a widow with one child when she
married my g g grandfather Niel. We have no Idea who her first husband was
or who the child was. All of the children that we have record of were born
after her marriage to Niel. Second, Margaret McInnis came from a family of
6 girls and 1 boy. In order they are:
Archibald b abt 1777
Flora (married Collin McDonald)
Ann
Mary (married Donald McDonald)
Margaret (married Niel McLucais) b abt 1792
Sarah (married John McLain later married Thomas Knaggs)
Catherine (married Daniel Cameron)
The parents of these children are:
Archibald McInnis b abt 1742
Flora McPhee b abt 1754

I'm pretty sure that this is the Archibald McInnis family which shows up on
Iona in the 1779 inhabitants of the Argyll estate. Archibald the oldest son
shows up as 2 years old on that census. It also looks like the father
Archibald (1742) had a brother Donald and father Archibald (b abt 1704)
living in the same place. I know that several members of this family
immigrated to the US and Canada. Margaret and her youngest sister Catherine
McInnis Cameron came over in 1843. Catherine was a widow with 4 children:
Daniel Cameron
Archibald Cameron
Niel Cameron
Sarah Cameron
They came into the port of New York and traveled to Buffalo. When they got
to Buffalo New York, Niel and Margaret got on a boat and went to Wisconsin.
Margaret's sister Catherine went into Canada with Allan (Niel's brother) and
his wife. Since Allan's wife was also a Cameron I assume that Allan
McDougall's wife Catherine Cameron and Catherine McInnis's dead husband
Daniel Cameron were probably related. Sarah McInnis must have also come to
the US because her daughter Ruth married Margaret and Niel's son Daniel
William McDougall. They were first cousins.

I would be very interested to know any more information on any of these
people if anyone on the list knows anything.

Thanks,

Bill McDougal Salt Lake City, Utah
