Kelvin,
Welcome! We are glad you found us through the Isle of Mull website.
Thanks to Jean and Barbara McQ, you have a great start for finding your
Beaton family on Mull. If you live near a Latter Day Saint (Mormon) Family
History Center (FHC), you will find a wealth of information there on
Scottish research. For instance, those films that Jean and Barbara looked
at for you are available at most FHC's world wide or can be ordered for a
fee. Plus, the OPR's (Old Parish Records) are on databases on most FHC's
computers. I am not Mormon, but I've found the volunteers at the FHC's are
very friendly, knowledgeable, and willing to help. Free classes are also
available at most centers on various topics including how to begin searching
for ancestors, how to organize and document your research, and even on
Scottish research. For me, doing my own research helps to stick the
information in my head better. However, I do live 100 miles from a FHC, so
can't go very often. And, many of us on the list do not have access to a
FHC, so Jean and Barbara McQ are doing a wonderful service for us. In
addition, the Roostweb website is also valuable. Mary McLean Hoff has a
website on her McLean / Beaton family from the Ross of Mull through
Rootsweb. You might find a connection there.
Happy ancestor hunting!
