David,
I checked the 1870 and Zacharia's place of birth is SC. The 1880 was the
first census to also include the parents place of birth. There is a Ben
Sutton(age 40) also living in Flat Creek Twp. Might that be his brother?

Marie..
Thanks for your response. I have always thought that Ben Sutton is a
brother of Zacharia(h) Sutton, but have not been able to prove it.
Zacharia(H) was deceased according to the 1880 Census, where I found his
wife, listed as a widow in Kershaw County.
So, I'm sort of grasping at straws..trying to figure out where
Zacharia(h) originated. Have found him in the 1860 Lancaster census with
wife and first child and possibly in the 1850 Lancaster census..as a
single male with mother and sister. And there is my dead end.
Thanks,
David T. Sutton
