Hi Folks
As I was returning to Bristol yesterday from the chalk downs of Hampshire/Dorset I managed to visit the parish of Fifehead Magdale in Dorset about 12 miles due west of Shaftsbury where in May 1865 my Great Aunt Sarah Anne Scantlebury married George Abbott.
Bearing in mind she was born somewhere in Ireland, her father John was killed/died in 1845 and she was resident in Polruan in Cornwall in the 1851 census with her mother.
After looking at the church and a brief look at the village I thought why did she marry here, how did she get here and how did she communicate with anyone regarding a job ( in a large house)
Has anyone any ideas, theories or suggestions.
All answers to the list please
Regards
Richard
PS there should be a new revamped web site very soon!!!!!! with a posh tree or two.
