I have the 1880 Census from Palos, Cook Cty Il which shows a Christian Runge as a son to Otto & Elizabeth. According to the Census he was 24 at that time and a teacher.
Nothing so romantic as a stowaway, though. Otto was born in Mayenberg (Mecklenberg?) Germany and Elizabeth I believe in Darmstedt, Germany.
