At the Long Island genealogy web page
http://www.longislandgenealogy.com/BooksOnline.html I came across a long article called "Long Island: its early days and development" published by the Brooklyn Daily Eagle around 1914. In it are advertisements for Fred M. Ruland, a maker of artistic granite and marble monuments and statuary and for C.W. Ruland who, with his sons Clarence W. and John, were funeral directors, embalmers, and undertakers. Both businesses were located at the corner of Lake St. and North Ocean Ave., Patchogue. The ads show pictures of the business establishments.
