Hi Folks,

Greetings from Toronto, Canada.

I would dearly like to contact any descendant or researcher of the family of
my cousin, John Farwell ROPER (1807 - c1865), who farmed in Netherbury,
Dorset. I would be delighted to share ROPER family history research notes
with such contacts.

John Farwell ROPER was born in 1807, in Chideock, Dorset, England. He m
Harriet DUNNING of Witherstone in 1836 in Powerstock, Dorset, England. At
the time of the 1851 census, John 44, farmer of 286 acres was living with
Harriett 37, Jane 10, John F. 7 and Harriett 5, in Cross House, Netherbury;
John 54 was a yeoman of Netherbury, Kingsland House, where he farmed 480
acres at the time of the census of 1861, living with Harriet 47, Jane 20 and
John Farwell junior 17. He died about 1865. John and Harriet had issue:

1. Harriet ROPER, b. 1839, bp. 1839 in Netherbury, Dorset, England;
probably died before 1846.

2. Jane ROPER, b. 1841, bp. 1841 in Netherbury, Dorset, England; last
noted in the 1861 census, living in Netherbury with her parents.

3. John Farwell ROPER Jr, b. 1843, bp. 1843 in Netherbury, Dorset,
England. In Q1 of 1871, in Beaminster district, he m Laura Louisa SLADE.
At the time of the 1871 census, they lived in Kingsland House, Netherbury,
where John 27 was a farmer of 495 acres, living with Laura L. 27, but no
children; and then they lived in Litton Cheney, where they farmed 630 acres,
at the time of the 1881 census; at the 1891 census Laura L. 44 was living
in Upwey with 7 children; in the 1901 census, Laura L. 54, widow, was
living in Beaminster, in the household of her mother, Louisa SLADE, with no
ROPER family members. John and Laura had issue.

4. Harriet ROPER, b. 1846, bp. 1846 in Netherbury, Dorset, England. In
the 1861 census for Islington, London, there was a Harriet Roper 15, a pupil
at school.

Best wishes.

Peter Ferreira.
