Greetings from Toronto, Canada.

I would dearly like to contact any descendant or researcher of the family of
my cousin, John ROPER (1807 - 1878), who was a tanner and, later, a currier,
living on East Street, Bridport, Dorset.

John ROPER was born 1805, in Chillington or Cricket St. Thomas, Somerset,
England. In 1860, in St. Pancras, London, he m Mary Sarah Symonds HULL of
Veres Wootten. John was a tanner and, subsequently, a currier. They lived
on East Street, Bridport, in the censuses of 1841, 1851, 1861 and 1871; in
the 1861 census, John 55, currier, gave his place of birth as Cricket St.
Thomas, Somerset, and Mary 29, gave hers as Dowlish, Somerset. Mary d. a
widow in Bridport, Dorset, England, in 1883 aged 51, and was buried with
m.i. in Chideock, Dorset, England. John died 1878, aged 73, in Bridport,
bur. 1878, m.i. in Chideock, Dorset, England. John and Mary had issue:

1. John James ROPER, b. 1861, Bridport, Dorset, England. In 1884,
in Frome district, Somerset, he m Gertrude HARROLD. In the 1895 Kelly's
Bridport directory, John James was Borough Magistrate, South Ward
Councillor, clerk to the Guardians and Superintendent Registrar, living at
74 East Street. John 42 was a solicitor in Bridport (census of 1901),
living with Gertrude 42 and Kathleen 3. He died 1933 in Bridport. John
James and Gertrude had one son and two daughters.

2. Rev. William ROPER, b. 1862, Bridport,, Dorset, England. William
was, M.A. Oxon., Clerk in Holy Orders. L.R.C.P. and L.R.C.S.Ed., residing in
Chideock. In 1909, in King's Norton, near Birmingham, he married Emily
Beatrice CATTELL. William died in June 1939. William and Emily had one son
and one daughter.
