Thank you, Teri, for your excellent explanation. You covered most of
the bases on why members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day
Saints do genealogy...

Just one Note Bene...we are not doing this just for ourselves and our
loved ones and family members...we want EVERYONE to have the opportunity
to avail themselves of eternal blessings. As you correctly noted...ours
is the responsibility to do what we can to gather records and complete
ordinances...what those on whose behalf we work chose to do about it is
theirs. So we seek records where ever they are regardless of national
origin, religious affiliation or anything else...and we go ahead and
complete ordinances for all deceased persons whose records we find...this
is our gift of service to our brothers and sisters...that the records
then become available for genealogical researchers is a peripheral benefit.

Why do the mormons do genealogy?..because Heavenly Father told us to; because
we want to serve ALL our brothers and sisters; because we want to extend our
families into the eternities; and because there are a whole bunch of us who
get 'hooked' on it and would rather 'do genealogy' than almost anything else...
our peak 'flow' experiences come when we find that elusive name....
