Hi Ian

Thanks for the information but my immediate Griffiths family only arrived in
Rhodesia in 1907 and my maternal line, McNeill, in 1902. I will keep this
extract in case there is a connection.

Subject: [TPS] Griffiths reference 1892

Hi Robin - Found this Griffiths reference perhaps a family member?

It was far easier to get through to Beira, though one had to walk most of
the way to the Pungwe River, then travel down by boat - rather than facing
the long wearisome trek back to Tuli (400 mile) with no means along the
route to replenish supplies. The nearest civilisation was Pietersburg in the
Transvaal and Mafeking on the other way south, 700 miles. I had just been up
to see Dr Jameson and was standing amongst the crowd in the market square
when the Reverend Isaac Shimmin hailed me. His friend Griffiths had been
disabled by the capsizing of his scotch cart. He wanted a driver and wished
to get to Johannesburg. After explaining that he had a wagon and fourteen
oxen, also a hottentot boy who could help, I said that I would drive him
down. By the 11th of November 1892 we were on the way south. The Reverend
Shimmin also decided to join our party. We broke our journey in December at
Victoria to once again see the Zimbabwe ruins, where I met up with Harry
Posselt and my brother Bob
