Subject: Rev. War Rosters

I received this from a researcher for Oh. But believe these names could be a help for other lists as well.
Pat
So many of the men or their offspring listed in these rosters moved into the
sourthwestern counties of Ohio--Belmont Co, Washington Co, Monroe Co, Morgan
Co, Noble Co, Guernsey Co--that I believe this information could be helpful to
present and future researchers.
BIOGRAPHY

"Michael Archer, born c. 1760, died c. 1786. Little is known of Michael, as
he was killed by Indians before 9 September 1786. After his death, his widow
Elizabeth Wells, daughter of John Duckett Wells, (sister of William Wells,
married to Michael's sister). Elizabeth (Wells) Archer, moved with her brothers
and two children, Mary and Joseph Archer, to Tyler County, (W) Virginia, where
his descendants live to the present time. ( Compiled by George W. Archer <
>).

HISTORICAL REFERENCE
Michael Archer is listed on the document "Petition for a New State of
Westsylvania."
"Petition For a New State" (List alphabetized from Howard L. Leakey's
book,
"The Ten Mile Country and Its Pioneer Families").
Petition included residents of Fayette, Washington & (to be) Greene Co, PA,
and Ohio & Monongalia Co, VA.
>From an original petition for a new state located in the Library of
Congress. No date is found on the document. Papers of the Continental Congress
No.
48, Folios 251-6, pages 89-96.
Leakey: "The names in this petition, which is not dated, seem at times to
be
taken from the militia rolls, and if circulated after 1780 contains names of
persons deceased or who had moved from the district. There is no attempt to
conceal the fact that the signatures were written by the prime agitators of the
movement as many of those names which appear here could only make their
marks."
Transcription is also available on USGenWeb Archives. Search Greene Co, PA
or Washington Co, PA. File: earlysett01.txt, Title: "History: Local: Early
Settlers, Petition for a New State: Fayette, Washington & Greene Co's, PA."
