Pat:
Do you have the name and e-mail address of the person(s) who contacted you about the William W. GILES/William H. RHEA (sometimes spelled RAY) connection (see pasted message below)? I would like to correspond with them.
I've had computer problems and had no access to e-mails so I may have missed messages the Giles/Rhea researcher has previously submitted to you.
William Henderson Rhea was the brother of my great-greatgrandfather, John Rhea (they were sons of Jesse Rhea and Margaret Blair).
Three children of Jesse Rhea and Margaret Blair married three children of David Stephens and Lurana Duncan:
William Henderson Rhea m. Eliza Stephens
Margaret Rhea m. Joel Duncan Stephens
Lavina Rhea m. John Franklin Stephens
Here is some information I have on this connection:
Eliza STEPHENS b. 13 Sept. 1817; d. 22 Nov 1892 Monroe Co., TN; buried Cane
Creek Cemetery, Monroe Co., TN.
Yes, Eliza was the daughter of David STEPHENS and Lurena/Lurana DUNCAN. David Stephens was the son of Henry STEPHENS and Margaret "Peg" FORRESTER.
Eliza STEPHENS married William Henderson RHEA probably before 1834.
William Henderson RHEA (b.12 May 1811, Blount Co., TN; d. 18 Jun 1894 Monroe Co., TN, buried Cane Creek Cemetery, Monroe Co., TN) was the son of Jesse RHEA and Margaret BLAIR.
William Henderson RHEA's will is recorded in Monroe Co., TN Will Book C, page 277. The will was executed 30 Apr 1888: "Land already dispersed to children noted in register office of Monroe County. Myself and wife Eliza to have possession our naturall lives. To Eliza all personal property, and after her death to Daus. Margaret RICHIE, Hannah LEE and Lourana BROOKS." Codicil dated 28 Aug 1890 stating other property to William GILES. Executor: Wm. GILES. Witnesses E.E. Griffith, C.E. Griffith, W.N. Magill, H.L. Isbill. Probate not noted.
Elijah LEE married Hannah/Sarah RHEA (daughter of William H. RHEA). Elijah and Hannah's daughter, Eliza Frances "Fannie" LEE, married Isaac Bartlett GILES on 31 Oct. 1880.
I have not been able to locate a marriage for William W. Giles and his wife. You show her name as Elmera on the 1880 and 1910 Monroe Co., TN census records.
I would like to correspond with the person who originally sent the query about William W. Giles to RHEA-L.
Best regards,
Polly Dixon in Houston
