Helen,

I have the following on a William H. Rhea in Alabama:

Lewis L. Rhea/Ray was born in Blount (or Knox) Co., TN 16 Apr 1797 and died
in Cherokee Co., AL on 20 Sep 1861. He married Martha "Patsy" Holloway in
Bennettville, St. Clair Co., AL on 8 Dec 1824. WILLIAM H. RHEA, their 7th
child, was born 22 Oct 1845 and died in Attalla, AL 4 Jun 1916. I have
"J.H. Cameron" as his wife and the marriage 21 Nov 1883 in St. Clair Co.,
AL.

Some of the information I have on Lewis L. Rhea and his family came from the
"Watauga Association of Genealogists Bulletin," Johnson City, TN, Vol. 8,
Nos. 1 & 2, 1979. The article, "The Rhea Family Bible," was contributed by
Mrs. L. W. McCown of Johnson City.

I have heard a story similar to the one you related about the father dying
and the mother re-marrying, but it doesn't seem to fit with what I know
about Lewis L. Rhea and Martha "Patsy" Holloway. They were both elderly
when they died. The version of the story I heard was written to Mr. Will
Parham, researcher and historian in East Tennessee back in the 1920s and
1930s. I have a copy of that letter from the Will Parham Papers at the
McClung Library in Knoxville.

Lewis L. Rhea served in the War of 1812 in the place of Jesse Rhea, and
apparently on his way back to Tennessee he stopped in Bennettville, AL and
stayed with the Holloway family for a time and later went back there and
married Martha "Patsy" Holloway, daughter of William Holloway and Nancy
(Boswell) Mitchell.

Lewis L. Rhea was the son of Robert "Robbie/Bobbie" Rhea, Jr. and Mary
Stephens of Blount Co., TN. They are my 3-great-grandparents.

If this sounds as if it might be a fit, let me know and I'll share
information with you. By the way, Robert "Robbie'Bobbie" Rhea, Jr. served
in both the Revolutionary War and the War of 1812.

Polly in Houston
