GLADLY! She's been the burr under my saddle for ages, my dear.

First though, please let me bore you with necessary background here. My
great great grandparents are Benjamin A. Creech and (Sarah) Jane Ingram(his
first wife). He was b.1817; d.1896. He had 3 wives. I have most of this
nailed down. Jane's dates are approx though. Know very little about her
other than through the census. Both were b.TN. She would have been
b.ca.1822. They married in Hawkins Co TN 23 Mar 1841. Jane disappeared from
the census between 1860-70 and he married again to a Sarah Jane on 22
October 1867. This is important in reference to Sarah Creech Rhea.
Ben's and Jane's last child listed in the census would have been as near as
I could figure, Laura, b. 1863...at least to a certain point in my search, I
thought that. They had about 13 children dating from abt 1841 or 2 onward.
However between Laura's 1863 approximate dob to the 1867 2nd marriage
there's a gap of 4 years and leaves a space for other births. As we know
children were frequently placed with grandparents or older married sibs for
various reasons to be raised and I believe this explains Sara Creech Rhea.

I was trying to track the Creech family in Hawkins and Hamblen Counties and
in answer to an inquiry, a librarian just fired Sarah's death certificate
off to me that he came up on in his search. I would have just stuck it in a
Miscellaneous file, except that when I saw her parents listed as "Ben
Creech" and "Jane Ingram" and I nearly dropped it. The information on the
certificate is so vague, it's beyond that adjective. I've even contacted the
funeral home and they have no more than what I have, in fact they muddied
the water. They have no year for her birthdate, just her age as 65. That
would have made it probably 1863...this was issued in Blount Co., TN,
November 1928. BUT the only different piece of information the funeral home
sent was the birth date of 29 Feb (still no year!) which would mean that it
was a leap year and 63 was not a leap year nor anywhere close to one. So
the 29 had to be a typo..maybe 19? 28? who knows. The place of burial is
written in as "Ben Creek"...which has to mean "Bent Creek Cemetery"...where
all the Rheas are buried in Hawkins(Hamblen) Co. Another thing...her father
is listed as Benjamin "Abby" Creech and that was his nickname because his
middle name is Abbott, so no mistake there. She died from malignant
hypertension and the doctor had only been taking care of her a few days
before she died. The name of the next of kin who filled it out is scrawled
so that it is illegible, under it the address is clear..."Johnson City".
She's listed as a "housekeeper" which is the way wives were listed back then
or she could have been a housekeeper. She was W and Married. The funeral
home said that she had no family. On the internet, I cannot find a grave
for her at Bent Creek.. a lot of my other relatives are buried there, so am
familiar with it.

That's all I have. A Sarah with the APPROXIMATE date of birth that she has
doesn't appear in Ben's family in the census..but there is one close to that
in his married son, William's. The startling thing about her to me is that
if she really is my Jane's baby, then was she actually Laura and she took
her mother's name later? Maybe Laura and Sarah were twins or even 9 months
apart and Jane died in childbirth or shortly afterward... so aside from
trying to place her because she is my blood relative, she will tell me more
about Jane. Sorry that this took so long, but I had to give you all the
background. Hope it is not too confusing. If need be, let me know and now
that you have this..I'll just send a note with the bare bones of the
certifictate's inf. but it's no more than what I've given. Hope someone out
there can give me a tip at least because I've ridden this horse to death.
