Subject: [RHEA] Rhea-Turk reunion
Date: Tue, 29 Jul 2003 21:15:41 -0500
A number of connections between the Rhea and Turk families occurred through
the years. The marriage between Thomas Turk Jr. and Anne Rhea, which
occurred in 1776 in Augusta County, VA, produced these children: Thomas Turk
III, James Turk, Robert Turk, Margaret Turk, Sally Turk, Archibald Rhea
Turk, Hiram Kerr Turk, William Turk and Ellizabeth Turk.
Margaret Turk, Thomas Turk Jr's half sister, married John Rhea in 1784.
Their children were Thomas Turk Rhea, James Turk Rhea, Elizabeth Rhea,
William Rhea, John Rhea, Margaret Rhea, Ann Rhea, Jane Rhea and Polly Rhea.
Another family connection between the two families is shown in the name of a
grandson of Archibald and Margaret (____) Rhea. Their daughter, Margaret,
married Samuel Houston, and they had a son named James Turke Houston.
Another line not yet connected to these Turk and Rhea families is one being
researched by Carol Wright of Midwest City, OK. Her husband is a descendant
of John Rhea Wright Sr. and second wife, Matilda Agnes Rhea Johnston. John
had a daughter named Margaret Turk Wright.
Anyone who has ties to any of these indiviiduals may be interested to know
of the Turk-Rhea reunion, held annually on the first Saturday in October in
northeastern Lamar County, TX, near the towns of Paris and Clarksville, TX.
For more info contact Johnie Lee at or write him at
Rt. 2 Box 327, Detroit, TX 75436.
This was passed to me by Johnie Lee who is not a subscriber to the Rhea
list. Sounds like this would be fun for someone related to the family.
