I saw your query on the Ray family on Daviess County mail list. I can't
answer your question about James Ray. However, I have a quick question
for you. Do you know how William Ray migrated from VA to MO? My great
grandfather moved from Patrick County, VA to MO in 1856, also. I'm not
sure what sort of migration route was used at the time. (There were no
railroads in Daviess County until the 1870s.) Did immigrants go by
wagon, river, combination. What roads? My only family legend says that
he and his nine children "wandered like the Israelites" until they
finally settled in Daviess County.
