This particular John Rhea, Sr. was a blacksmith and farmer born 1781 - 1790
who moved to Greeneville, Tennessee at some point before 1816. A family
letter states that he came from Virginia and that his mother was a "Gragg";
he was related to (probably the older brother) to a Robert Rhea who also
lived in Greenville, but who moved west late in the 1840's. Both John Rhea,
Sr. and Robert Rhea knew the Balch family, particularly John Tennant Balch.
