Unfortunately, this connection between Matthew Rhea and the Campbells
appearing as the basis for the illustrious ancestry on this web page has not
been documented. Five years ago this was, and remains pure speculation on my
part. I now regret publishing this speculation as it may become 'fact' by
being quoted and requoted. Instead, primary research of Irish and Scottish
records needs to be undertaken.

I have read with interest your web pages showing the ancestry of Margaret
Rhea. However, the ancestry of Matthew 'The Rebel' Rhea to Walter Campbell
and beyond is completely speculative. This possibility was uncovered during
my correspondence with the current Duke of Argyle in 1995. I hope someday we
are able to uncover some evidence, but to date, after looking pretty
diligently, the proof is not in records in the US. Further research in Co.
Donegal and Scotland will be necessary.
