Dear Pat,
William Abram Rhea and his second wife, Louise Edmondson Rhea, were
childless. All of the children of W A Rhea were by Mollie Rhea. Louise was
the sister of my great-grandmother, Jennie Edmondson Rhea, who was the wife
of Walter Preston Rhea. Both the sisters were children of William Campbell
Edmondson and his first wife, Susan Elizabeth Rhea. This branch is very
intermarried!
Susan Elizabeth Rhea was the daughter of Joseph Campbell Rhea, another
grandson of Rev. Joseph Rhea.
I actually have some sterling silver bought by W A Rhea and Aunt 'Lulu'
Edmondson Rhea. At her death, Aunt Lulu left many things to her nephew,
Walter Preston Rhea II, son of sister Jennie Edmondson Rhea. My dad and his
uncle inherited it and it has passed on down to me and I am passing it to my
granddaughters.
I have a photo of Aunt Lulu and one of Uncle William A. Rhea, taken long
ago, in the yard of their Memphis home. The old photos were so small that
it almost takes a magnifying glass to make him out, but that is who one of
my father's uncles identified him to be.
After untangling the relationships, I discovered my great-grandparents were
third cousins, once removed! Even my father was not aware of that.
Best wishes,
Anne Rhea Bruce
