Here is what I have accumulated for Thomas Rhea and children.

1. Thomas RHEA born about 1782, Greenbrier Co. VA, married 23-Jan-1804, in
Bath
Co., VA, Martha RHEA, born 1789, Pocahontas Co. VA, (daughter of Robert
RHEA and Martha MEEK). Thomas died 1810, Barren Co., KY. He married his
first cousin Martha. The year following their wedding, they relocated to
Kentucky. According to Barren Co. KY deed book J page 311-312 they were in
Henry Co. IN by 1823 as that is when Thomas and wife Martha Rhea "of Henry Co.
State of Indiana" sold to James Randles of Barren Co. Ky for $333.33 a parcel
of
land in Barren Co. on the waters of West Fork of Little Barren River.

2. Lewis RHEA born about 1805, Barren Co., KY, married 20-Apr-1830, in Barren
Co., KY, Rhoda LAWRENCE, born about 1812, KY?, (daughter of John M. LAWRENCE
and
Rebecca HARVEY). Lewis died 1875, Waverly, Morgan Co. IL, buried: Turner
Cemetery, Waverly, Morgan Co. IL. Patricia Hall, 121 East Louis, Olathe
Kansas
has their marriage records. His name appears on a list of the charter members
of
the Berlin Baptist Church (New Berlin IL).

3. James RHEA born 14-Oct-1809, Cumberland Co., KY, married 2-Jan-1831, in
Barren Co., KY, Virlinda M. LAWRENCE, born 15-May-1811, Cumberland Co., KY,
(daughter of John M. LAWRENCE and Rebecca HARVEY) died aft 1880. James died
1859, Apple Creek, Morgan Co. IL, buried: Turner Cemetery, Morgan Co. IL.
Patricia L. Hall 1212 East Loula, Olathe KS 66061 has James' marriage records.
His name appears on the list of charter members of the Berlin Baptist Church
organized Oct 6, 1833 (New Berlin IL) as does his wife's. James and family
appear on the 1850 IL census. Verlinda appears on the 1860 and 1870 census in
Morgan Co. IL without James who died in 1860. Virlinda: She is shown as head
of
house in 1860 and 1870 census of Morgan Co. IL. 1860 real estate worth $1000
and
personal property $320. Mary, John and James all living with her. 1870
Virlinda
appears on Morgan Co. census. 1880 she appears in the household of James
Harvey
in the census of Miami Co. KS - age 69.

MO. 1870 census John appears as head of household, age 24, wit
wife Mary and children Louisa and Susan.

1880 appears on the census of Sugar Creek, Miami Co. KS with
second
wife Margaret and children.

John's obituary appears in the Drexel Star August 5, 1909
(microfilm copy at Cass Co. Historical Society, Harrisonville
MO).
It contains some information that differs from that found by
other
research such as the date of his marriage to Mary and her middle
initial.

John L. Rhea was born Dec. 9, 1845 near Waverly, Morgan Co. IL.,
died in Drexel MO August 1, 1909 age 63 years 7 months, 23 days.
He
was married in 1867 to Mary A. (sic) Turner. She passed into the
other world in a few short years. Of this union were born four
children. Three of them died in infancy, one, Mrs. Julia
Shoemaker
died in Drexel about 6 years ago. August 29, 1874 he was married
to Margaret Eidson. There was born to them 6 children; 2 died in
infancy and 4, 2 sons and 2 daughters, together with the widow
remain to mourn his loss. In 1872 he located to Cherokee, KS.
He
moved to Rockville, KS in 1879 and lived in that vicinity until
he
moved to Drexel a few years ago where he was engaged in the hotel
business. Mr. Rhea was an exemplary man whose good works as a
citizen and Christian will follow. When he was 16 years old he
was
converted to Christ and joined the Baptist Church. After moving
to
Rockville he always remained faithful to his religion and was an
active worker in the church where he lived. He was mayor of
Drexel
in 1908 and made an efficient officer. He was a worthy member of
Coldwater Lodge, 485 AF&AM. He will ever be remembered for his
sterling character and good works. Funeral services were held at
Asbury Chapel at 5pm on Monday, conducted by Rev. VW Henderson.
Burial at Rockville Cemetery. The Masonic order held services at
the grave.

Mary: Daughter of Evan Turner. She and three of their children
had
died by 1872 in Cherokee Co. Margaret: Chalkleys Cronicals of the
Scotch Irish in VA notes her father was Franklin J. Eidson of
Iredell Co., NC.
vi James Harvey RHEA born 4-Oct-1850, Morgan Co. IL, teacher,
minister, farmer, married 27-Sep-1874, Mary Jane ALDERSON, born
6-Mar-1856, Virdin IL, died 19-Apr-1921, KS?. James died
20-Feb-1926, Drexel, Cass Co. MO. 1880 he appears on the census
of
Miami Co. KS with wife, son George 2, and his mother age 69.

Obituary - Drexel Newspaper 1926: Born near Waverly where he
grew
to manhood. Left Illinois in 1873 and located in Cherokee Co.
Kansas. Here on September 27, 1874 he was united in marriage to
Miss Mary Jane Alderson. To this union six children were born,
three boys and three girls. Flora and Thomas died in infancy,
George W. of Drexel MO, Fletcher of Kansas City Mo. In October
of
1877 after the death of their second child, Mr. and Mrs. Rhea
sold
out in Cherokee county and started in a covered wagon for Iowa.
When they reached Miami Co. Kansas the country looked so inviting
they decided to go no further. They bought and improved a farm
west of where Drexel MO now stands.

Here in Drexel, their four surviving children were born. Mr.
Rhea
taught school for many years during the winter months and farmed
during the summer. He was elected representative from Miami Co.
to
the State Legislature in 1888. He also served many terms as
Justice of the Peace and other township offices.

He became a Christian early in life and was an active worker in
the
church where ever he lived. In 1894 he entered the ministry of
the
Methodist Episcopal Church and his first charge was Rantoul to
which he was appointed and moved in march of that year. He
preached as a regular preacher at Bronson, Parker, Labette,
Chanute
circuit, Matfiled Green, Virgil, McCune, Prescott, and New
Lancaster. He was instrumental in leading many to Christ, and in
the building of many new churches.

In 1921 he retired from active service and moved to his farm west
of Drexel MO, located in Kansas. His wife died in April of 1921
and in the fall of that year he removed to Drexel where he made
his
home with a daughter, Mrs. Allen Kohlenburg, until his death.
