#189 Albion, Robert G. & Dodson, Leonidas, Philip Vickers Fithian: Journal, 1775-1776, (Princeton, NJ: Princeton University Press, 1934), 151-152.
#190 Waddell, Joseph A., Annals of Augusta County, Virginia, (Richmond, VA: Wm. Ellis Jones, 1886), 16.* The people on the west side of the Blue Ridge Mountains were called "Cohees," from their common use of the term "Quoth he," or "Quo'he," for "Said he."
#191 Sevier, Cora Bales, & Madden, Nancy S., Sevier Family History, (Washington, D. C.: 1961), 247-249.* Both Archibald Rhea and his brother Robert, named sons James White Rhea. For notes on James White, see [Ref. 46].
#192 Humphreys, Frederick, The Humphreys Family In America, (New York: Humphreys Print., 1883), 1023.* "Ann; m. Archibald Rhea; d. young in Eastern Tennessee; no issue." She was one of ten children of David Carlisle and Margaret (Finley) Humphreys (1017-1023). Some Rhea researchers doubt that this Archibald was the grandson of Robert Rhea. However, Ann and her husband did move to Eastern Tennessee where Archibald, presumably his father, had lived from about 1787 to 1793. Marriage bond, Oct. 16, 1798, wedding, Oct. 26 (Chalkley 2:329, 356; [Ref. 41]).
#193 Robert Rhea and Olivey Connely, Marriage Bond, Knox Co., TN Records, June 6, 1809.* The author secured a copy of the original bond from the Knox County Archives. The name "Gay" does not appear as a middle name for Robert, as some have contended. A Bounty Land Claim filed May 27, 1853 by Robert's widow, Olliva, * gives the marriage date as June 6, 1809. Her name has been recorded as Olivey, Ollava, Olivia, and Oliva.
#194 Olson, Marie, Charleston, S. C., Personal Communication. She descends from Robert and Olivia Rhea through their son, Andrew M. Rhea and his wife, John Franklin and Mary Ann Catherine (Davis) Rhea.
Hugh G. (George) Rhea and Calvin M. Rhea signed a declaration Olliva made for a land warrent on May 24, 1852.* In the 1850 U.S. Census for Cherokee County, Alabama. "Oliva's" age was given as 55, Calvin M. 25; Andrew M., 18; Mary J., 17; Jonathan, 15; and Mariah, 15.*
