#169 Hopkins County, Kentucky, First Marriage Book, 1807-1869, (Hopkins
County Genealogical Society, 1971).
#170 History of Union County, Kentucky, (Evansville, IN: Courier Co.,
1886), 244-245.* The reference to Robert Rhea's birthplace is found within a
biographical sketch of his son, Dr. Robert Henry Clark Rhea. He and his
wife, Mary Priscella (Vaughn) had three sons: David M. Rhea, Dr. Roland
Herman Clark Rhea, and Dr. Henry F. Rhea. Biographical sketches of the
latter two are on pages 245-247. Robert H.C. and his son, Henry F., were
poets by avocation. "The Storm On Galilee by the father is found on pages
341-343, and "The Dream of Moses Caton" by his son are on pages 344-347.
#171 Augusta Co., VA Deed Book 46, 201-202.* Dated 1821 (no month or
day), recorded January, 1822. The parcel was "one equal third part" of 340
acres on Smiths Creek in Augusta County, devised to Ann Lockridge, widow of
John Lockridge, and to her son, Andrew Lockridge, upon her death or
remarriage. Andrew and Sally Lockridge were living in Hopkins County when
the deed was written. See John Lockridge's will, [Ref.157]
Augusta Co. VA Deed Book 53, 43-45.* Dated December 11, 1830,
recorded June, 1831. Robert and Elizabeth Rhea sold the 340 acres in Augusta
County to andrew's brother, John Lockridge Jr.
That Robert Rhea of Hopkins County, Kentucky was related to the Rheas
of this article, there is little doubt. Besides living in close proximity to
Alexander Rhea's family, he lived near and personally knew Andrew Lockridge,
the son of Alexander's sister, Ann (Rhea) Lockridge. He purchased the 340
acres in Virginia before his marriage two years later, perhaps in
anticipation of eventually returning to Virginia.
#172 Greenbrier Co., VA Tax List, 1783-86.
#173 Bath Co., VA Deed Book 2, 477-479.* Dated April 3, 1802, recorded
June, 1802. Robert and Catherine (Her Mark) Rhea, 102 acres on the
Greenbrier River to William Ewins. Witnessed by "Robert Rhea Jnr."
#174 Eckenrode, H.J., Archivist, Virginia State Library, A Calendar of
Legislative Petitions Arranged by Counties Accomac Bedford, (Richmond: Davis
Bottom, 1908) 195.* Copy of the original petition.*
#175 William Rhea, Grave Stone Inscription, Givens Cemetery, Pike county,
Ohio.
#176 Metheny & Wise, 25.*
#177 Bator, June Elder, Sunnyside, WA. Personal Communication. Supplied
information on the children of William and Elizabeth (Boiler) Rhea. She
descends from Rachel (Boiler) Elder, Elizabeth's sister.
#178 Metheny & Wise, 18.*
#179 Catharine Rhea, Death Certificate, Pocahontas County, West Virginia
Death Record No. 1853, Page 2.* The Family bible [Ref.67] records September
21, 1856, the death certificate, September 22. Dropsey given as the cause of
death.
