Hello Martha,
Thanks for replying to my e mail and I believe there is probably a connection
. But who knows? Martha, by the time the Rheas arrived in TX before 1870 they
were Church of Christ and I believe they were in TN. My great grandfather
came to TX with a John SNEED family and married one of his daughters. In what
little research I have done I believe he was born out of wedlock to Elizabeth
RHEA and she must have been disowned. She was Rev. Joseph Rhea's
granddaughter and the daughter of James RHEA and Elizabeth SNAPP Rhea. This
is the "brick wall" that I keep hitting. My gr grandfather was H. Tolbert
RHEA but not sure what the H is for. I have seen Henry and Harry. He came to
TX and later was in politics. First the County Judge then State Representive
and was asked to run for Governor but declined for "personal reasons". He was
told the story about his father as a knock at the door one night and a bunch
of carpetbaggers took his father to never be seen or heard of again??? I
understand that the RHEAs were in several states and they were a large
family. Brothers fought against one another in the War and I have seen their
named spelled at least 10 or 12 different ways. The John RHEA that you
mentioned was born in Ireland and he was James RHEA's older brother. I
received an e-mail from an Ed Foley this AM saying the had written a book
about the RHEAs in l995 and had over 6500 names of descendants. I am going to
e mail him immediately and try to find the book. My husband and I have gone
to TN about 10 years ago but I did not know how to get the info and I was
easily discouraged ...but not know. Thanks for your time.
Mary Ellen Rhea McKelvey
