Martha,
My grandfather was Knox Rhea. His father was H. Tolbert(Tobe) Rhea that was
born in Eastern TN. There are many John Rheas in the family tree that I have.
Some were born in Ireland & some in Scotland before coming to the USA in
1769. They were in MD, PA, & VA before they settled in Sullivan Co., TN. The
Rev. Joseph Rhea was pastor of Piney Creek Presbyterian Church in Maryland
from 177l to 1776. and he is buried there. His wife Elizabeth McIlwaine Rhea
died and was buried at Weaver's Cemetery in Bristol, Sullivan Co., TN. I
believe my Rhea ancestors were one time Campbell family and changed their
name to get out of the country. Some were imprisoned and also beheaded for
their Protestant beliefs. If this sounds any bells please contact me at <
>. Thank you for taking the time to read this.
Regards,
Mary Ellen RHEA McKelvey
