For Elisabeth Clark's will see Ref. 61.

#68- Augusta Co., VA Guardian Bonds 1775-1804,7.* Bond dated March 18, 1777,
William Reah and John Campbell named guardians of William, Hugh and John
Reah, orphans of William's son Archibald Reah. William McPhettors and James
Wallace signed the bond, valued at 1000 pounds.

#69- Augusta Co., VA Deed Book 1-A, 220-222.* Dated February 1, 1797,
recorded April 1797. "Between John Rhea and Hugh Rhea devisees of Archibald
Rhea decd. and Rebeccah Rhea wife of said Hugh of the County of Knox in the
State of Tennessee of the one part and David Bell of the County of Augusta
and State of Virginia of the other part...two hundred and thirty acres which
were conveyed to... Archibald by William Rhea by deed of lease and release
bearing date of 16th and 17th day of October 1769..."

#70- Kirkpatrick, 178.

#71- Ibid, 178

#72- Augusta Co., VA Will Book 7, 38-39.* Will of Thomas Meek, father of
Elizabeth Meek, who married James, son of William Rhea, and of Martha Meek,
the first wife of James' brother, Robert. Dated June 26, 1786, proved
January, 1788. The author has a copy of the original will. Named his wife,
Agness, sons, Daniel Meek, Samuel Meek, John Meek, and daughters, Elizabeth
Reah, Mary Vachub(?), and Martha Reah. John Meek and James Reah, executors.
Signed "Thos. (his mark) Meek."
The appraisal of Agness Meek's estate was made October 8,1794, and
recorded April, 1795.
In December, 1805, Elizabeth (Meek, Rhea) Stockton, daughter of Agness
and Thomas, gave power of attorney to William Rhea (Jr.) of Green Co.,
Kentucky, that he might "demand and receive all of the estate of mother Nancy
Meek deceased now in the hands of Betsey Meek, widow of Daniel Meek deceased
which belongs or is coming to me." Barren Co., KY Deed Book A, pp 237-238.*

#73- Petition to form a new county from Augusta County, VA, dated April 15,
1778.* Copy of the original is located in the Virginia State Library,
Richmond. All four signatures look alike, and have the "Rhea" spelling,
perhaps its earliest use by the Virginia Rheas. Similarity of handwriting
suggests that many of the signatures on the petition were forged, including
some, or all, of the Rheas. See the article on BENSON, TRIMBLE AND HARPER,
submitted by William N. Stryker, page 118 of the Bicentennial History of Bath
County, Virginia.
