NOTE!- #62 began on page 6. I believe I said page 5, Sorry)
In a statement dated October 31, 1805, John Rhea wrote: "...Be it further
known, that I have relinquished all claim to the slave Tom, and the dispute
about him has been settled between me and the heirs. Be it also known that I
obtained in the lifetime of said William a patent by his consent for the home
place or plantation so that that part of the agreement was complied with in
his lifetime. All therefore that I wish to obtain by the said suit is a title
for 125 acres, that being the real quantity of land contained in the patent
obtained by said William for the 127 acre entry mentioned in said bond,
agreeable to the deed made to me by John Rhea, Robert Rhea & Ann Lockridge,
three of said heirs..."
On November 2, 1805, the remaining heirs relinquished their interest (BATH
CO, VA DEED BOOK 3,126-130*). Recorded at June Court, 1806. Those named were
Alexander Rhea, son of William Rhea, and his wife Mary (Crockett); William
Rhea (Jr.) and his second wife, Elizabeth (Brownlee); Hugh Rhea, son of
William's son, Archibald, deceased, and his wife, Rebekah (Smiley); and the
children and their spouses of William's son, James, deceased: Elizabeth
(Rhea) Rhea and her husband, Robert, son of William, Jr.; James Rhea, Jr. and
wife Rachel (Jolliff); Mary (Rhea) Rhea and her husband Thomas Rhea, son of
Robert; Thomas Rhea, and his wife Martha, Robert's daughter; Margaret Rhea
and her husband William Barnet; Nancy Rhea and her husband Joseph Richie;
Hannah Rhea; Martha Rhea and John Rhea, all single. Those not signing
included Hugh and Rebekah Rhea, Nancy and Joseph Richie, all of Tennessee,
Alexander and Mary Rhea, John Rhea and Martha Rhea. The deed was drafted in
Barren Co., Kentucky, where an identical deed was recorded. Except for
William and Elizabeth Rhea, those signing were the same as on the Bath County
deed (BARREN CO, KY DEED BOOK A 238-241,* dated November 2, 1805, recorded
December 28, 1805).
