This may be another tie to Augusta County (see below) ~ Rev. John Brown was
actually a German Reformed minister at a popular church (Timber Ridge) just
over the Augusta County border in Rockingham near the home of Martin Luther
Coyner and Elizabeth Rhea Coyner ~ two of his daughters married sons of
these Coyners. He was a very much loved minister in that area for many
years, over 40. German Reformed is considered Presbyterian in nature, as
opposed to German Lutheran, although they many times shared church
buildings until each could build their own. Many of those Scotch-Irish
found in PA migrated to this area, the Millers and Pences among them, with
German Muellers and Bentz's mixed in to confuse the issue! The Miller Iron
Works of this area was a good landmark for many years.

"Hugh married Rebecca Smiley, daughter of Walter Smiley, on June 2,
1796.[70] By 1804 they were living in Tennessee.[62] John married her
sister, Mary Smiley, on January 2, 1801.[71]"
Note: As for Hugh & Rebecca, the date given in the article is the bond
date and may have been the date of marriage. They were married by John
Brown, Presbyterian. The date for John & Mary is the bond date. As far
as I know, the date of the wedding is not extant. The bond or license
and marriage date were usually not far apart.
