CAPTAIN HENRY HUNTER'S COMPANY
The following is the roster of Captain Henry Hunter's Company,
Colonel William Johnson's Regiment, during the War of 1812. The Company
was called into service on September 20, 1814 and mustered at Tazewell.
It was discharged May 3, 1815. This was a mixed Company, that is, it was
composed of men from several counties. The only information on the roll
not included here is the date of actual muster of each individual. I
obtained the list from the Tennessee State Library and Archives. All
remarks relating to any individual are included. The spelling of the
names are as they appeared.
This Company was part of the force General Andrew Jackson left a
Mobile, Alabama to prevent the British landing there instead of at New
Orleans.
Under the column "Entered From" this indicates the county from
which the individual entered service, however, some names such as Jacob
Bolinger are known to be residents of Claiborne county although he
supposedly entered from Grainger county. Jacob Bolinger was certainly
known to Captain Hunter because he was a nephew. Perhaps these were
clerical errors so treat this column with care.
