If John Rhea only married once and his wife was Sarah Scales, he certainly
married too late for her to be the mother of his children. EARLY MIDDLE
TENNESSEE MARRIAGES, VOL.1, GROOMS by Byron & Barbara Sistler, has the
following: Jno. S. Rhea to Sarah P. Scales 12-17-1827 (12-18-1827) [Li]
In Joseph Scales will dated 18 Jan 1830 he mentions his daughter Sally P.
Rhea. As John Rhea's children were born about 1801 to 1820, I definately do
not believe Sarah Scales was John Rhea's only wife. I realize that John's
will sounds as though Sarah was the mother of his children, and she probably
was, but not Sarah Scales. Perhaps there was another John S. Rhea who married
Sarah Scales in 1827.
I would like to see if I can locate the will of Sarah Harris' father in
Grainger Co., TN. John Rhea married Sarah Harris is 1797 and could possibly
be the Sarah who was the mother of John's children.
