I have not yet gone through the land records of Greeneville myself, but this
was in a file of letters from 1927 that I just received from my father:

April 30, 1806

Whereas, James Patterson, high sheriff of the County of Greene in the State
of Tennessee, by his deed indented bearing even date herein conveyed to the
said John Balch, his heirs and assigns forever, one certain lot of land
situate, lying and being in the county of Greene and State of Tennessee, on
the south side of Main street in the said Town adjoining said street and
known in the plan of said Town by Lot No. 64:

Beginning at a stake near the corner of the house Mr. Dennis now lives in,
and running with said street, N 21 E. 5 poles to a stake; S. 69 E. 16 poles,
crossing Richland creek I6 poles to a stake; thence S. 21 W.5 poles to a
stake corner of Dennis's Stable; thence N.69 W. 16 poles to the BEGINNING,
containing one-half acre.

On April 30, 1806, Washington Balch executed a deed to John Balch for one
town lot. This deed is witnessed by John Kennedy and Samuel Y. Balch.
(Court Record)
